Coffee and Cafe Ambiance - a Life Love
Let's get this right out in the open: "WE LOVE COFFEE!" My favorite drink of choice would be an almond roca, cappuccino al dente. For coffee, we crave a medium-balanced house blend containing at least three varitels of world-class coffee beans. Like any sophisticated, city livin' couple, coffee shops were the place to indulge yourselves with your favorite coffee drink. Except, things started changing when "kid toting, Chicago couple" further defined our coffee shop experience and way of life.
"Your kids are bothering me..."
In 2005, we experienced an awkward cafe moment – the dreaded “you’re-disturbing-my-peace-please-remove-your-kids” stare. Not only did standing in line ordering seem uncomfortable, but trying to fit in a laptop jungle while getting dirty looks had us gulping down our cappuccinos. And our daughter, well, she acted like any normal, incredibly curious two-year-old. Spilling the orange juice just seemed too much. Knowing we had another child on the way, we walked home thinking there had to be an alternative. That night, we conceived a new idea.
The Birth of Family Grounds Cafe Company
Take a retail space, fill it with sophisticated design; warm tones; patient, attentive, caring staff and add an indoor playground. Better yet, soundproof the play area and combine interactive and engaging play-learning elements surrounded with comfortable seating with an expansive, safety-check view of your child. Voila! Family Grounds Cafe – a unique neighborhood cafe concept welcoming everyone – a first in the city of Chicago!
About the Owners - Passion Meets Dedication
We are Chicago residents of over 12 years and parents of three children. We know the reasons why we all love living in Chicago: excitement, amenities, diversity, and that “my kind of town feel”. We also know all about the struggles we face: homes too cramped, and let’s just face it – the weather – winter cabin fever or summer roast.
We have taken our experiences of raising our family in Chicago and paired it with our love of coffee and joint backgrounds in design, marketing and education, along with love, guts and passion, to build a community-centric cafe that makes you feel welcomed, appreciated and at ease.
