Family Grounds Cafe in the making. Part 3
Three years after the concept for Family Grounds Café first entered our minds we began everything necessary to start our business. It was a long year of perfecting our business plan, researching and searching for the perfect location. There were four locations that we seriously considered before we finally found our current spot. When we found our spot at 3652 N. Lincoln we were so excited. Not only was it big enough, but it had parking and was right near the el stop! We decided this was it! Oh, I should mention it was previously an auto-body shop… most of our friends and family that saw it thought we were crazy! But John and I had vision and knew it would look beautiful when complete. Well, lease negotiations took much longer than expected and the week before we were to sign the lease, guess what we found out? Yes…. A big surprise for us… we were pregnant with our third child!
After a few days of contemplating what life would be like with a new business and a new baby, we decided to live by faith and go ahead and sign that lease. It seemed so ironic that two years earlier we chose to wait to start our business when we weren’t quite so busy. Well, here we are… opening a business at the same time we welcomed our third child into our family! I guess we were destined to do both at the same time! Liviya was born on June 26, 2009 and we are now finalizing everything for Family Grounds to open in August. Liviya, had a rough start with diaper rashes, reflux, colic, and all the typical newborn issues. Sophia (5) and Dylan (2) are in love with her as are John and I. Our little Livi is our sweet little bundle that we will watch grow along with our business! Right now, we are busier than we have ever been… 3 kids… newborn… business… our plate couldn’t possibly be more full! Things aren’t easy at the moment, but who ever said easy was fun? Life… what a ride it is!
