A Message from the Owners of Family Grounds Cafe

August 25, 2009 was the awakening of a long-time dream for both Brady and me, and we couldn't be more thrilled with where the last two years of hard work has taken us thus far.  Five weeks later, we stand humbled by the support and popularity surrounding the Family Grounds Cafe concept.  It all began with an idea, a leap of faith (cliff diving with no parachute), and not to mention our entire life savings.  A family business comes to life for our community.

Brady and I - not in our wildest dreams - could ever have imagined the popularity behind Family Grounds Cafe Company.  We attribute it to: 1) Love of customer 2) Great staff 3) The Family Grounds Cafe experience 4) Quality and delivery of products. 

The mornings are indeed busy, especially on Fridays.  We are trying to immediately address this situation - remember, we too are parents (of three: 5, 2, 3mos.) and understand the dilemma.  We know what it feels like to get kids dressed, stuffed in the car, only to arrive to a waiting list - not fun.  We don't like it either!  We are listening attentively to your suggestions, and we thank everyone who has shared ideas in a positive way and shown support. 

Please understand, Brady and I have no control over the weather or who decides to frequent our cafe at any given time or day. Family Grounds Cafe is just a popular destination with FREE parking and a cool view of the Brown Line Addison stop 25 feet off the ground (Kids love this!).

Each day, we implement processes to better meet the needs of our growing customer base - we love you all - thank you!  Customer satisfaction is our number one priority - we created this business for you, for parents, for children, for community...for the love of Intelligentsia coffee.

As all new businesses sprout, there will be kinks with growth.  As our roots grow deeper, we invite you to work with us in an effort to make Family Grounds Cafe a better place for you - a strong, vibrant "oak tree" in the Chicago community.  But, we are conscious of this:  Not all will be happy (but most of you are :).  Thanks for being patient, as we better learn about you and our business!

Our vision for Family Grounds Cafe has been, is, and always will be: "A Chicago Cafe Where Kids are Free to be Kids and You're Free to Relax". Period. 

The cold weather has come, and we realize that our space could be five times bigger.  Although, keep in mind, Disney World gets overcrowded too!  What Family Grounds Cafe has done to compensate:

• Instituted a customer check-in time (online reservation system being considered soon for morning hours)
• Provided more ample seating in the cafe area
• Placed shoe and coat racks for optimizing space
• Created fun play areas in our "waiting" room and cafe seating area
• Limited number of customers in the play space for a more comfortable and safer experience
• Hired two additional Child Activity Leaders - one plays guitar and even yodels!
• Brought on more staff for the front of the cafe
• Bought new tables and chairs for added seating in the play space area

In the coming weeks, we will continue to make changes that enhance the Family Grounds Cafe experience.
